Project Partners

Rheinisch-Westfaelische Technische Hochschule Aachen

(CWD – Center for Wind Power Drives)

CWD as part of RWTH Aachen University is one of the major renewable energy drivetrain research facilities in Germany. CWD was established in 2013. Since then, CWD has taken part in extensive research projects regarding wind turbine drivetrain optimization via simulation and Onshore testing up to a power of around 4 MW. Furthermore, the knowledge gained in the wind turbine drivetrain research was transferred to tidal turbine technology for simulative optimization and qualification of design changes via testing.

Role in project:

  • Lead Onshore-testing

  • Lead Digital Twin development

The voice of Europe's ocean renewable energy industry

Ocean Energy Europe is the voice of the ocean energy sector in Europe and the largest network of ocean energy professionals in the world.

Their mission is to create a strong environment for the development of ocean energy, improve access to funding, and enhance business opportunities for its members. To achieve this, OEE engages with the European Institutions (Commission, Parliament, Council, EIB, etc.), and national ministries on policy issues affecting the sector.

They bring to this project their unrivalled network of ocean energy contacts, from companies and universities to regulators and policymakers, and their expertise in high-impact communication and dissemination.

Role in project:

  • Lead project coordination

  • Lead communication and dissemination management

  • Expertise in policy-making and strong influence on decision makers.

World-leading tidal energy test and demonstration centre

EMEC is the world’s only accredited ocean energy test site. As a plug-and-play facility, EMEC helps reduce the time, cost and risk of testing, demonstrating and verifying wave and tidal energy technologies in the sea. The centre provides pre-consented, grid-connected test sites in harsh wave and tidal regimes alongside support with consenting, site characterisation, environmental monitoring and performance assessment to international standards.

To date, EMEC has hosted more marine energy devices than any other site in the world.

Role in project:

  • Host 9.6 MW Orbital tidal array at EMEC Fall of Warness tidal energy site

  • Lead implementation of environmental monitoring plan, increasing knowledge of environmental impacts and optimising environmental monitoring operations at array scale

  • Undertake power performance assessment of tidal turbines

Developers of advanced fleet and asset management software

MaraSoft is a family-owned company that develops and supplies a Software as a Service (SaaS) solution. A complete maintenance and asset management system is marketed under the name ‘Marad’, which stands for maritime administration. Marad is an affordable, user-friendly and powerful management system. It can be used without training by most users. Furthermore, Marad is used on more than 4000 vessels in various sectors such as merchant shipping, offshore, fishing, dredging, cruise and more.

Role in project:

  • Lead Digital Maintenance Management

MRE and oceanographic engineering research consultancy

EDLL provides a technical, scientific and strategical support, a global approach to upgrade MRE sector. As scientific operators of 2 tidal test sites in France, EDLL has experiences in embracing scientific and technical expertise to gather environmental data to fuel discussions and consenting processes. The strong commitment in MRE professional associations allows an effective collaboration with policy makers and long terms benefits for the MRE industry.

Role in project:

  • Lead Exploitation, Scalability and Commercialisation of future projects
